Lexi and Bobo

This is the story of two sweet little girls separately saved from the streets of Bosnia to live a happy life on the South Coast.
Lexi was rescued from the streets in February 2023, and was adopted in April 2023.
Bobo was found by the side of the road in June 2024. She was adopted in January 2025
They are both now happy and settled with their adoptive parents in East Sussex.
When Lexi and Bobo, became Ermie and Flo!
Lexi was picked up from the streets by Vera in January 2023. It was a harsh cold winter and she looked like she had injuries. Vera built her up slowly, had her spayed and treated for her wounds. She seemed a happy little dog, and she lived on the shelter with all the other dogs, playing and building up her strength. Then in April 2023 she was adopted by Hannah and Steve, in East Sussex on the South Coast of England. She fitted in very well and quickly. She was given a new name (Ermintrude – Ermie for short) and started having many adventures by the seaside.
She also started going into work with her mum Hannah who worked in a care home . She was very popular with the residents.
Then in mid 2024 Hannah contacted DNV to ask if she could foster another small dog, with the possible idea of adopting in the future. There were several “false starts” where they selected a dog to foster, only for someone else to come along and adopt them, but then… along came Bobo. !
Vera found Bobo all alone on the side of a busy road. She had absolutely nothing – no food, no water and no shelter. Vera picked her up and took her to the vet. She was ill at first, so they treated her for anaemia. Vera started building her up with feeding, plus extra vitamins etc.
She did well, in fact she flourished, and made friends with other dogs, but the months went by and nobody wanted to adopt her. It was very strange, despite all the appeals we put out nobody wanted her. So in November 2024 Hannah and Steve took her on as a foster. Her new name was Florence (Flo).
It was difficult for her and for them. Her new home was on a busy street and she could not manage the noise and people. Hannah had to be very patient. They began to make progress, then they had a really difficult time after Bobo was attacked by another dog while away on holiday. She recovered, slowly and the family learned how to manage such situations
More patience and more time passed, and they began to make progress. Flo was slowly getting to be “at home” and a part of the family. Then finally in January 2025 DNV had a conversation with Hannah and Steve… “do you want to keep her?”. They said Yes !… but DNV said.. “let’s wait a few more days, so you can both think about it. (Just in case)”. But after a (very) short wait they said Yes again .. and Bobo was adopted !
Here are a few words from Hannah
“We’ve had our wispy princess Ermintrude for nearly two years now, then Florence came along as a foster who we couldn’t say goodbye to. Ermintrude is sassy, such a diva, and stubborn whilst Florence is shy, brave and always wants to be fussed, they are both gorgeous loving dogs and I feel so lucky to have found DNV and support all the amazing work Vera does for these dogs. Ermine had a mangled face when she was found, we don’t know what happened to her but she will have her scar forever, I think she is beautiful with or without it.
Flo was found in the rubbish at the side of the road. They are both super spoilt now, and come to work with me where they bring the residents of a nursing home so much joy. I love how they bonded too, as even though Ermine wasn’t bowled over at first to share us, they now have such a cute connection, kissing each other in the morning and play fighting non stop! I cannot stress how amazing these dogs are, having been through so much. Giving a street dog a home is rewarding for us and rewarding for them. It’s just the best feeling.
